Are women funny? Let's find an answer to that!

Stand-up comedy has become one of the most consumed contents in the comedy genre. Be it live shows, YouTube videos or Instagram reels all of us have stumbled across standup comedy videos and they are just hilarious. What made stand-up comedy so popular? It is how relatable the jokes are. If you have a favourite stand-up comedian it’s probably because you find their content relatable. But like almost every other field, even stand-up comedy is dominated by men, does that mean women are not funny? Well if this is your question then let me tell you about these women stand-up comedians that can give any man a run for their money.

Comedy with melodious music, musical comedy? Whatever you call her way of comedy, it’s hard to say what she does better, comedy or music. She rules the stage with songs that are funny and relatable, so if you want to groove to some funny songs about relationships, sex and womanhood then Catherine Cohen is someone you should check out.

Emma Willmann

The great thing I find about stand-up comedy is how many comedians bring up their previous experiences and share them with the audience. While being funny they also make a strong connection with the audience by sharing personal stories, and Emma Willmann does just that. Emma grew up in a rural town with a population of 800 people. So obviously a lot of her jokes are about her childhood and how she grew up in a small town. Emma can build a strong connection with the audience and that has landed her in a short stand-up special by Netflix.

Sandra Bernhard

Let us move away from cute stories from the past to some angry rants. Don’t be alarmed even though they are on the two opposite ends of the spectrum but both are equally funny. So, if you want to laugh your guts out to rants about the social order then Sandra Bernhard is the lady you want to follow. She has been doing it since the 70s and had some of her most hilarious content during the Trump era.

Negin Farsad

There are a lot of sensitive issues floating around today. Be it racism or cultural differences it is hard to talk about these heavy things while putting a light twist on them. And that is where Negin Farsad outshines everyone. She is an Iranian-American comedian that usually jokes about growing up in a conservative family, cultural clashes, and Muslim identity. It is her honesty in the jokes that makes her so fun to watch.

Morgan Murphy

Morgan Murphy is just built differently. She is one of the most hilarious writers you will ever come across. Don’t believe me, let me give you something to believe in. Morgan Murphy has been a writer for 2 Broke Girls, Jimmy Kimmel Live, and Late Nite With Jimmy Fallon. After all these she still had time to write the comedy special, Irish Goodbye. If you are into self-deprecating humour then you must check out Morgan Murphy’s gin-soaked special Irish Goodbye.

Bridgette Everett

TV comedy specials may not be for everyone, for some live shows are the only thing that tickles their funny bone. For people like those, I bring to you, Bridgette Everett. Her live shows are all about over-the-top raunchy skits and musicals. But don’t think she is just a newbie who’s trying to make a name for herself. She has been in the game for a long time and if you are from New York and frequent live comedy shows you already know this legend.
