Can "Camp McDonald's" Recover from Grimace Debacle and win our Hearts?

“Camp McDonald’s” is here folks and no it’s not a real camp. But if it’s not a real camp, what is “Camp McDonald’s”. It is the burger giant’s most recent in-app promotional campaign. With “Camp McDonald’s” you will get 27 consecutive days of food deals, menu hacks, “limited-edition” merch drops, and musical performances. But all these offers are only available via McDonald’s app.

Before diving into what the happy campers and not-so-happy campers think about it, let us have a look at what McDonald's is offering. Before launching the campaign the hamburger giant released a press release asking us to mark our calendars. But if you missed the announcement and want to mark your calendar now, let me help you. All the offers of “Camp McDonald’s” are running from the 5th of July to the 31st of July.

McDonald’s is giving out deals on many crowd favorites like McFlurries which will be “Buy-one-get-one-free” on July 27. 20 Chicken McNuggets that you can grab for only $5 on 26th July or you can grab a Big Mac for only $2 on July 30. And these are just some of the offers McDonald’s has in store for us.

McDonald’s kicked off their campaign with a Retro Grimace Pool Float for the $1 minimal purchase on day one, or that’s what everyone thought. More on that later. Camp McDonald’s also significantly played up the menu hacks with offers such as a free McFlurry with an apple pie or if you are craving a McFlurry sandwich you can order a McFlurry through the McDonald’s app on July 20th and you will get two cookies absolutely for free.

Campers are not “lovin’ it”

With McDonald’s dropping so many fire deals, many customers are not happy. Few even took to Twitter to express their disappointment. But what happened in just the first two days that got the people so riled up. So like I mentioned before McDonald’s started their 27-day offer bash with a merch drop. The Merch in question was a purple Grimace Pool Float. Those who don’t know about Grimace, Grimace is a purple McDonald’s character that appeared in tv commercials.

The fast-food franchise had on fine print saying the customers will have access to the Grimace float after making the minimum $1 purchase. While many thought after the $1 purchase the float would be free but allegedly it cost $30. And many had issues accessing the float. But the unrest within the crowd was created by the fact that McDonald’s didn’t reveal the $30 price tag for the float. Well on the bright side I will not be hoping for any free or $1 merch in this “Camp McDonald’s”.

Is it really that bad?
