Did you know these popular dry shampoo brands could kill you?

Dry shampoos can kill you! No, it is not a hoax. A Connecticut-based laboratory, Valisure brought something to light that might have saved many lives. They tested 148 batches from 34 brands of dry shampoo and what they found shocked everyone. The New-Haven based laboratory found that most of the dry shampoos had high levels of benzene in them. For those who don’t know benzene is a chemical that can cause certain blood cancers. After their shocking discovery, Valisure was prompt with their action and filed a petition with the US Food and Drug Administration to pull back all the products from the shelves. The scary part in all this is that many popular brands like Church & Dwight Co and Not Your Mother’s.

Dry Shampoos cause cancer

These popular brands are being sold nationwide and no one knows about the health hazard these products can cause. Valisure is to be thanked for this discovery, but this is not their first rodeo. Valisure has detected benzene before in other products. It is really scary that products that are available to the masses with ease contain something that can potentially take someone’s life. Previously Valisure found benzene in antiperspirants, hand sanitizers, and spray sunscreen and now they found the same in spray-on dry shampoos. I am left with one question: how is this going unnoticed? Is it because products like these are a part of a complex supply chain or are they because the regulators are going easy on them?

Benzene levels differ from brand to brand but the highest levels of benzene were found in the brand Not Your Mother’s. Ironically as the brand is known for talking about its “quality ingredients”. But Valisure is a hawk when it comes to detecting benzene. Valisure has detected much higher levels of benzene in dry shampoos than in any other personal care products the lab has tested before.

In Valisure’s list of brands with benzene in them, Batiste was also there. But after Valisure’s petition, a spokesperson for Church & Dwight said that the company previously inspected with their ingredient supplier and confirmed that there were no traces of the chemical mentioned in Valisure’s petition. Furthermore, the spokesperson added the company would evaluate the petition made by Valisure. At Least we got something out of Church & Dwight. Sun Bum, John Paul Mitchell Systems, Not Your Mother’s kept quiet and refrained from making any immediate comments. I know the companies have to think about their reputation but if someone just detected a cancer-causing substance in their product, the least they could have done is give an immediate response to their customers who use their products.

Valisure is not exactly the body that assures the products that hit the shelves are safe for consumers. But they are in the business of checking the quality of certain products. They partner up with brands and test the quality of their products. One of their most notable partnerships is with Gojo Industries. If you are not familiar with the company you might be familiar with their product, Purell hand sanitizer. Valisure sure has experience with working with brands that deal in personal care products but it is not their responsibility to make sure all the products that hit the shelf are safe for their consumers.

So what should be done so products that contain chemicals that may cause a life-threatening disease will never hit the store shelves? Who should take responsibility if something like this ever happens again? The authorities or the company that manufactured the product. Comment down below and also if you used any of the products mentioned comment down did it affect you in any way.
