This final application of powder is where cosmetics can go horribly wrong. In this look worn by Nicole Kidman, the powder used on her nose and eyes for shine and oil control was still visible, and in the flash of the cameras, it almost appeared as if she had been using recreational drugs when in reality it was just a heavy application of makeup.

Angelina Jolie does not use heavy makeup like many of her peers, but she still makes the list with this epic fail from the 2014 Normal Heart premiere. When the cameras flashed, the liberal application of translucent powder by her beauty team stood out prominently. It ruined what was supposed to be a lovely minimal makeup look.

Tyra Banks

As a supermodel, we’d Tyra Banks would always appear flawless and photo-ready. Unfortunately, no one is perfect at all times, as evidenced by the 2012 Moth Ball. Tyra arrived at the event with a dramatic smoky eye that hid her signature eyebrow arch. With her pink lips, she ended up looking positively clownish.

Lark Voorhies has recently been spotted on television wearing the worst makeup we've ever seen: excessive bronzer, an odd lipstick shade, and untidy eyebrows. Her makeup artist allegedly attempted to sabotage her by giving her this god-awful appearance.

In 2012, Ke$ha collaborated on a Baby G watch collection and debuted the designs at an event held at the SLS Hotel in Los Angeles, where she was photographed wearing truly outrageous eye makeup (that weirdly seemed to extend to her hair). She appeared to be wearing a superhero mask and had instead attended a costume party. Over the years, Ke$ha has sported several edgy looks, but this one went too far.

Blending is among the first lessons in makeup application. Unfortunately, the makeup artist responsible for Bradley Cooper's face at the 2010 Valentine's Day film premiere failed to take this step. The actor appeared on the red carpet with foundation and bronzer all over his face, except for his beard. And there was no evidence of blending, resulting in this catastrophic failure.

We are all familiar with Miley Cyrus' crazy, tongue-out phase, during which she didn't care what people said about her behavior or, apparently, her makeup. When she walked the red carpet for Maxim's Hottest, the singer experienced a severe makeup malfunction. NO-NO! The visible layer of powder around her chin left everyone wondering if she licked it off or if she applied her own makeup in the dark.

Of course, there’s nothing wrong with guys' earring eyeliner, but Billy Joel in this matter took it too far when using red eyeliner on his bottom lid. The fleshy color of eyeliner made his eyes look infected, and the teardrop streak was a nice touch, making the whole look just too melodramatic, and honestly a little gross. 

Nicki Minaj

Even though Nicki Minaj has rocked many eye-catching and weird looks on the red carpet, at the American Music Awards nominations in 2011 all she rocked was a whole lot of bad makeup. The attempt to highlight and contour her face failed due to the harsh lines around her nose and face that had not been properly blended.

I wish somebody had handed Claudia Winkleman a tissue before she attended the GQ Men of the Year awards in London in 2013. Her smudged eyeliner made everyone talk and she even tweeted that she was throwing away her eyeliner! Also, the pale lipstick was just like an added insult to injury.

I get it that it was in 2004 and thin eyebrows were in trend but the extreme use of blush and forehead shadow should have never made its way on the red carpet. Thankfully Christina Aguilera isn’t appearing in the the pink face look anymore and is one hot mama!

Monster (2003) star Charlize Theron was almost unidentifiable when she starred as the lead in Monster, and she was not herself again when she accepted her Oscar for the same role. The usually flawless Theron may have been going for a golden glow matching her golden statuette, but her tan was overwhelmingly orange and her face looked yellow and eyebrowless, which were clearly visible.

Last but not least, Lady Gaga who is known to show up to the red carpet with experimental looks, her attempt to tone it down at the MTV Music Awards in 2009 was one of the awful makeup failures. Not only her face was covered in white powder but the dark, heavy eyeshadow looked messy and overbearing. But, thankfully she has toned down her bold looks and has changed in appearance over the years.
