Yes, Meryl Streep plays Julia Child, the famous chef and cookbook author, and her loving husband is none other than Stanley Tucci. The film is a beautiful portrayal of Julia Child pursuing her culinary dreams in the midst of scenic France and also Julie (Amy Adams), a cooking enthusiast and blogger who sets out to cook all 524 recipes in Child’s cookbook in just a year. Julie documents all her cooking rendezvous in her blog and creates a decent fanfare of her own. 

Ratatouille

Putting this list together has me noticing one essential detail in cooking movies – bringing up France is almost as integral as the food itself. Ratatouille is set against the unremarkable beauty of Paris, and you will experience two things you’d never want to see together – a mouse and your food! Here the chef is a tiny but passionate rodent, Remy, and the plot follows his journey into the culinary world. He befriends the garbage boy to make his way into the kitchen of his dream restaurant whose former owner was the reason Remy, the rodent, loves cooking.

No Reservations (2007)

For any professional, the biggest fear ought to be a junior overtaking them. The same fear drives the lead, Kate Armstrong, to her last nerves when fellow chef Nick Palmer gives her a hand in the kitchen as her underling. To makes matter worse, she’s forced to also take care of her niece after a family incident which she fears is making her lose her edge. So what do you win and what do you lose in this unspoken but loud culinary battle?

Chocolat (2000)

Juliette Binoche stars as the sole owner of a confectionary called La Chocolaterie Maya. It’s literally a magical café as the ingredients have some sort of pixie dust that spares no one from its yumminess. Johnny Depp, on the other hand, tries to impress Juliette’s character with all his yummy handsomeness. Beware, this movie is literally an aphrodisiac for food, and showcases fluffy, airy, chocolaty, creamy delectable confections from all over the world. Bon Appetit!

The Hundred Foot Journey (2014)

An Indian family fleeing violence finds a haven in a tiny French town. They buy a restaurant to start over but soon find themselves embroiled in competition with the bistro next door. Soon enough, the competing chefs (played by Charlotte Le Bon and Manish Dayal) begin to fall in love! This delightful comedy-drama uses fusion cooking to send a positive message about multicultural acceptance.
