Leonardo DiCaprio's ex becomes his savior amidst a barrage of memes
Everyone is again talking about Leonardo DiCaprio but this time they are not talking about his great performance in a new movie, no they are talking about the other thing. You know what the other thing is right? It’s Leonardo Dicaprio’s dating life! Ever since the netizens got the news about Leonardo Dicaprio and his girlfriend, Camila Morrone, breaking up they have flooded the online space with memes. This is not the first time netizens have made memes about the fact that Leo appears to have never dated anyone above the age of twenty-five. Many users also very humouredly pointed out that Leonardo DiCaprio is notorious for dating young models.
So let’s look back at when all the rumors started to swirl. It was around the time when Camila Morrone turned 25 (June 16 to be exact). The netizens knew the time was inching closer to the inevitable and after reports started coming in about Leonardo DiCaprio and Camilla Morrone separating there was a barrage of memes about Leonardo Dicaprio’s dating life. While some were extremely funny others felt like a blow below the belt.

Netizens do have a reputation for being ruthless from time to time and this time it was no different. One Twitter user wrote, “ 3 things are certain in life:- death - taxes - Leonardo DiCaprio breaking up with his girlfriend before her prefrontal cortex has fully developed.” While another user wrote “ The girl Leonardo DiCaprio will dump when he’s 72 was born today.”
If you think these were mean just hold on as the barrage of snarky comments and jokes keep on going, and people started coming up with innovative ways to pass on their commentary on the Oscar winner’s dating life to get as many likes as possible. One Twitter user really dove deep into “what could be Leo’s psyche” and posted “ Maybe Leonardo DiCaprio hated 9/11 so much that he can’t even date women who remember it. Did it even occur to you?” Yikes! And to add insult to injury the post has more than 180,000 likes.

180,000 is a lot of likes you might think but that is just scratching the surface. One Twitter user wrote, “ there’s no phenomenon on this planet more reliable than Leonardo DiCaprio breaking up with his girl by age 25, the stats are breathtaking.” This post spread like wildfire on Twitter and got around 275,000 likes.
While it may have been all fun and jokes for the netizens but for one of his ex-girlfriends it was a rather serious business. Kristen Zang finally spoke up against all the “ageist” memes and posts circulating online. In an essay for People, Kristen Zang spoke about how she felt compelled to share a few things. Kristen Zang who is now 48 dated Leonardo DiCaprio from 1995 to 1999 and shared a few memories with her ex-boyfriend. In the essay, she also shared that the couple broke up for a while in 1997 but eventually got back together.

4 months after Kristen turned 25 the couple broke up for good and Kristen revealed it was her choice. The reason behind Kristen sharing all the details now was she felt compelled to speak up amongst all the conversations, posts, and memes surrounding Leonardo’s relationship and his girlfriend’s age. She strongly felt a very wrong message was being sent out. She wrote: “Now over 20 years later when I read the headlines and online comments with his most recent ex-girlfriend being referred to as having ‘aged out’ or being ‘too old for Leo at 25, puh-lease (insert dramatic eye roll). I think we can and should do better. What kind of message is this sending to the young people?” For the younger generation she added: “life gets so much better after 25. Yes, you get more wrinkles but you also get more confidence and more love for yourself.”
She is definitely right on one end. None of us know what really happened that led the couple to break up and neither is it our business. And Leonardo DiCaprio and Camilla Morrone do not have to explain their decisions to the public. But unfortunately, it's quite normal for celebrity relationships to get the limelight, and many share memes and posts on the online space.
