Music or makeup - which one is Rihanna's true calling?

Rihanna’s music career began when record producer Evan Rogers invited her to the US to record demo tapes. She hopped onto a plane and made her trip to the USA from Barbados and it was a fruitful trip, to say the least. Rihanna went on to sign a contract with Def Jam in 2005 and it was not long before she dropped her first album. Rihanna’s first album Music of the Sun released in 2005 and her second album A Girl Like Me released the very next year in 2006. It’s safe to say as Rihanna burst into the scene it was raining music because she was literally dropping albums every year. My personal favorite of all time came from her third album Good Girl Gone Bad and it was Umbrella.

I was not the only one who loved Umbrella. With that song, Rihanna topped the charts in many countries including the USA and the UK. Her success with the umbrella did not stop there, the success of the hit single led to the ZUmbrella singer winning her first Grammy. It was just the beginning, in her music career Rihanna went on to win the Grammys 9 times and she has been nominated more than 30 times. It’s safe to say she has had an illustrious career in the music industry. But what about the beauty industry?

Rihanna entered the beauty industry 12 years after she started her journey in the music industry. But her endeavor into the world of beauty was a bit different, this time around Rihanna was not an unknown name trying to make it big. She was big and everyone knew her. And shook up the scene as soon as she entered. She launched Fenty Beauty back in 2017 which got a lot of eyeballs. Mainly because Fenty Beauty was offering a makeup line that was inclusive and affordable. 

Fenty Beauty started out with highlighters, foundations, bronzers, blush compacts, and a few other products. But the makeup line of Fenty Beauty was diverse and offered products for all skin colors. Fenty Beauty’s success forced other mainstream makeup brands to look into their products and make some changes. Yes, the “Fenty Effect” is real. Fenty Beauty became a force to be reckoned with and made Rihanna a billionaire.

There is no doubt Rihanna is a very good businesswoman and a talented singer. But if it was not for her fame through her music career her journey to the top of the makeup industry might be a little rockier. So, what is Rihanna’s true calling music or makeup?
