The Marvels: Everything You Need to Know Before You Watch the Movie

The sequel to Captain Marvel, The Marvels, has finally hit cinemas, and it's promising a game-changing reveal that could shake the very foundations of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).

While the film has been praised for its entertaining storyline and the new team of Marvel superheroes, it has surprisingly underperformed at the box office by Marvel Studios' usual standards.

Despite the box office numbers, The Marvels is a must-see for any fan of the MCU. The film sees Carol Danvers team up with Monica Rambeau and Pakistani actress Kamala Khan to take down the formidable villain Dar-Benn, with a little help from the returning Nick Fury and, of course, Goose.

Marvel boss Kevin Feige has even gone so far as to compare the film to 2012's The Avengers, stating that there's something "immensely powerful" about seeing Monica, Kamala, and Carol together on screen.

That's a big claim, right? here's everything about The Marvels, to find out if this claim is true and if this movie is worth watching.

When is the Marvels coming out?

Well, we don’t need to wait any longer as The Marvels has already arrived in cinemas. First, it was originally set to release on July 28, 2023, before it was postponed back four months to November 10, 2023, one of the number of release date delays, but also thankfully the final one.

But then Marvel announced that It was meant to be out in July 2022 before a shuffle of the entire MCU slate saw it pushed back to February 17, 2023.

Later, in April 2022, The Marvels swapped places with Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania, pushing it to its previous release date, November 10, 2023. The movie was almost completed filming as of May 2022, with some reshoots in Augusta 2022.

The Marvels Post-credit Scene

I know you all are eager to know about the Marvel post-credit scene. The Marvel credit scenes are an MCU staple, and it will be no surprise to learn that the movie carries on the tradition by having one credit scene.

It comes mid-credits and it is not to be missed. Don’t worry I won’t give away any spoilers here though.

The Marvels cast: Who are the 3 Marvels in The Marvels?

Directed by Nia DaCosta, The Marvels, one of the new superhero movies of 2023, is the shortest MCU movie, but it uses its limited running time effectively.

When it comes to the 3 Marvels in the Marvels, the movie brings together Carol Danvers (Brie Larson), Kamala Khan (Iman Vellani), and Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Parris) in a cosmic adventure that features some hilarious events.

But that's not all! The Marvels also delivers one of the most innovative action sequences in recent Marvel history, as our three heroes' light-based powers become entangled, leading to a hilarious and action-packed spectacle.

Unfortunately, despite its critical acclaim, The Marvels has had a disappointing opening weekend, marking the worst commercial start for any Marvel Studios film.

Is MS Marvel in The Marvels?

Oh Yes, Ms. Marvel is the Marvels of the new MCU film. The character Iman Vellani reprises her role as Kamala Khan/Ms. Marvel from the Disney+ series Ms. Marvel. The film also casts Brie Larson as Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel and Teyonah Parris as Monica Rambeau.

Is The Marvels a good movie?

Well, it’s not easy to say that this Marvel new superhero movie is not worth watching. The Marvels is facing difficulties at the box office, with a low opening weekend and a record-setting drop in its second weekend.

The movie has only earned a disappointing $161.3 million globally so far, while a concerning number considering its $275 million budget.

Many Marvel fans also stated that the film’s plot is a little shaky, as it rushes past providing a proper backstory for a somewhat forgettable villain, a Kree leader named Dar-Benn (Zawe Ashton), who is trying to steal natural resources from various alien planets in order to revitalize her dying homeworld.

It will certainly leave you in confusion, asking some questions, such as whether Dar-Benn’s brutal conquest even needed to happen in the first place and if Captain Marvel has the power to do things like casually fly into a dying sun to reignite it.

But, I’ll still say that The Marvels packs a lot of fun moments and adventures with Marvel's new superhero. This  105-minute film works much better than some of the studio’s recent TV shows and movies that have taken themselves too seriously.
