What is Restaurant Week in NYC?
Restaurant Week was first started in 1992 by Tim Zagat and Jow Baum as a one-week, lunch-only promotional program to encourage those who were in town for that year’s Democratic National Convention to engage with local businesses. Today, Restaurant Week is bi-annual and has seen numerous cities nationwide participate in similar events including popular Chicago Restaurant Week and Charlotte Restaurant Week 2024.
New York City Restaurant Week comes twice a year, in summer and winter, and each version lasts about a month. Restaurants create their menus and produce prix fixe selections for brunch, lunch, dinner, and sometimes all three especially for these days. Saturdays are formally excluded and Sundays are optional, so expect regular menu prices at those times unless otherwise stated. Last summer Restaurant Week’s $30, $45, and $60 price tiers for two- and three-course specials have returned for winter Restaurant Week, 2024.
