Who deserves the $3010 fine, Taylor Swift or her fans?

You would be shocked to know that Taylor Swift has been ticketed by New York’s Sanitation Department over 30 times. The 33-year-old singer must be really busy because I cannot think of any reason for overlooking a ticket more than 30 times. Now the final billing has come up to a massive total of $3,010. This amount has built up over time and according to the New York Sanitation Department, the fine is for between January 2018 to January 2023. Yes, Taylor has been avoiding the fine for almost half a decade. 

A report suggested that there were piles of garbage in front of the singer’s Tribeca home. There were piles of bottles, cardboard, newspapers, and napkins outside her residence. That’s not all, the report also mentions there were “scattered ashtray contents” and cigarette cartons on the floor. Although I have not seen any pictures in the description, I can visualize that it must be a mess outside. 

A dog walker from the neighborhood also talked about the trashy condition outside the singer’s house. While talking about it the 22-year-old dog walker mentioned Taylor Swift “doesn’t care about leaving trash out” and also added that the singer is “more focused on her multi-million dollar tours”. Personally, I do feel those were a bit harsh. She is famous and she needs to keep up her public appearances and that’s why I think it’s important that she cares about her tours.

Like me, many of her fans came forward and defended the “Cruel Summer” singer. Taylor Swift doesn’t smoke and many fans pointed it out. This clearly means one thing, the carton of cigarettes and the “scattered ashtray content” is clearly not because of her. 

One of Swift’s former landlords talked about her and had only positive things to say about her but then we are left with a very important question. If Taylor Swift is an ideal “tenant” then why was she fined $3,010 for keeping things ‘trashy’ around her New York residence?

It could very well be that Taylor Swift is not directly responsible for this. If not her then who? It may be us who are spreading the garbage around. Let me be a little clearer, we the fans may be responsible for this entire ordeal. 

Swift has a global following and many of her fans visit her residence to get a glimpse of the singer while they wait they might litter empty water bottles and other garbage. This could also explain the “scattered ashtray content” when Taylor Swift doesn’t even smoke.  

If this is right does it mean Taylor shouldn’t be accountable for the fine? Or you could look at it from a different perspective. Taylor Swift should be held accountable for her fan’s actions, after all, they were there to see her. Talk about being stuck between a rock and a hard place!
