Although he didn't share more details at the time, viewers know that the first eight episodes of Yellowstone season 5 began airing at the end of 2022, concluding on January 1, 2023.
That would suggest that part 2 was originally designed to feature 6 episodes, but Taylor indicated to THR that there could be a lot more to watch than originally planned. "If I think it takes 10 episodes to wrap it up, they’ll give me 10," he told the outlet. "It’ll be as long as it needs to be."

While speaking to TV Insider, Piper Perabo (who plays Summer Higgins) said: "There's a lot coming. Things are on the move. I can't wait to get back to the back half just because I want to know what happens. I personally only know what happens up to the midseason finale up to that last second, and I don't know what happens when we come back...."
She continued saying, "I think you can tell that things are going really south, because [the seventh] episode doesn't end at the fair; it ends with him practicing that speech. And Taylor's very good – if you're paying attention, he's telling you where the trouble's coming from," she added. "I think the fact that he ends with that scene is, for those paying attention, he's showing you."
On the other hand, in an interview with Extra, Kevin Costner talked about how he identifies with the story in the new season. "There's some underlying currents that I actually identify… it's the land that's at war. People who think that one man has too much, there's people that know what they would do with the land… the whole thing of all these people attacking this guy and he's trying to hold on to it, and I can relate to that."
Costner also addressed rumors that his character could die in season five saying, "I don't want to die… just too much to do. In terms of this story, I don't know where that’s gonna go… I haven't really thought about it. Everybody dies, but it's how you live."
And beyond even that, Yellowstone actor Wes Bentley has disclosed that showrunner Taylor Sheridan, already has a plan for how the show will end.
