Is Kanye West insane, genius, or an insane genius?

“The insane billionaire”, now is a great title that will attract anyone’s attention. As history has witnessed, people who are eccentric and become successful with their eccentric ways have become symbols of wealth, inspiration, and motivation. But just because their stories have been romanticized in films, books, and TV shows, we cannot forget that there is not a spec of evidence backing up any of the claims. But history has also told us something else about these eccentric millionaires and billionaires, almost all of them suffer from mental health issues. That just goes to prove that there is no correlation between being a genius and being insane and similarly dare I say one can be a genius and still be unsuccessful so just because you are successful and a billionaire that doesn’t mean you are a “genius.”

Kanye West’s journey has been a long one in the music industry and he has transformed a lot. Right from the get-go, Kanye West was praised. His first album The College Dropout was praised by the audience for Kanye’s honest lyrical approach to everyday life and social issues. But Kanye was in the midst of controversy right from the beginning of his career. He was in controversy and many of the industry executives rejected his album for the song Jesus Walks. Kanye West didn't shy away from any criticism and embraced it. 

It was not long before everyone understood that Kanye West dabbles in the extreme, and he made it clear with his music video of Famous. This might be Kanye’s most controversial music video to date and after seeing the music video I asked myself a question for the first time. Is Kanye West insane or a genius? The music video featured a naked lifelike statue of Taylor Swift. Don’t worry Taylor Swift was not alone; the music video featured other public figures in a similar fashion including American ex-president Donald Trump. Now you know I had a solid reason to ask myself the question, is Kanye West insane or a genius?

With his “bold” moves aside, Kanye West did his fair share of spiraling out. In 2016 when Kanye West was out on his tour, he would cancel shows quite often. What was more common than Kanye West canceling shows at that time were his pseudo-political rants. A lot of his audience did not appreciate his rants but then again he was always in the headlines. But like I mentioned earlier, most of the “insane geniuses” face a lot of mental health problems and Kanye West was no different. Kanye faced his share of mental health problems and was admitted to a psychiatric clinic. Kanye took a break and reappeared after a few months but now it seemed he was more ecstatic than ever. Although sometimes his political rants were insightful, sometimes he would be just offensive. Kanye West took it as far as labeling slavery as a ‘choice’.

Well, his comments got him to the headlines but at what cost? I can never figure out if Kanye West is just crazy or if he is crazy smart. What do you think, comment down below!
