5 Times Rihanna Has Proved to be Extremly Toxic

Let's get this out of the way before we take endless flak for dragging Rihanna: we adore Riri and have always respected the courage with which she chooses to stick out from the crowd. Back in 2021, the artist from Barbados single-handedly caused a media frenzy in India by tweeting about a farmer's demonstration. The celebrity power she possesses is unparalleled, and she is well-known for responsibly employing it. Thus, the casting of thespian Johnny Depp in the beauty mogul's newest Savage X Fenty lingerie display came as a complete and utter surprise.

The actor from "Pirates of the Caribbean" strolled the runway to "So Fresh, So Clean" by hip-hop group Outkast (yes, the irony is not lost on us), despite their ongoing public dispute over defamation and domestic violence claims against him and his ex-wife Amber Heard. Johnny, decked out in an olive green Savage X Fenty Set, appears from the forest's shadows and strides confidently, almost as if he were taking a triumph lap, as the backdrop dancers hype him up.

For as long as anyone can recall, Rihanna has been a woman’s girl. Among the many factors contributing to her beauty and fashion empire's meteoric rise is an effort at fostering variety and welcoming all types of customers. It's almost anti-feminist to see her offer a platform to a powerful guy who isn't yet out of the woods after a protracted civil war. Especially considering that the jurors deemed Johnny and Amber culpable of defamation but that they are only paying various amounts on separate accounts. The decision, however, has been taken as a victory for the latter, and patriarchy around the globe has spared no effort in his honor. Despite the ambiguity, he still has the support of major companies like Dior and Disney. But Amber has given up on all her promising endeavors, sold her California house, and relocated to Spain.

Due to their fame, celebrities are rarely held to a lofty moral code, but Rihanna has always been unafraid to name a spade a spade. By doing this, Rihanna has jeopardized her standing. Although Riri has never been accused of being an ally to an alleged offender before, she has been at the center of controversy before for the artistic direction of projects like Savage X Fenty and the appropriation of religious symbols. Here are five times that Rihanna ran afoul of the law for doing the same thing.

Rihanna took a lot of heat online for sampling Coucou Chloe's Doom, which samples a Hadith, a religious Islamic verse. (A Hadith is part of a collection of texts believed to be the spoken words of the Prophet Muhammad). People on the internet were quick to label her as "careless" and "irresponsible," despite the fact that she had made an honest error, because religion is not a form of aesthetics and she could have avoided this situation with even minimal study.

Rihanna received backlash for how she was modeling in her Savage X Fenty lavender photos because of a Lord Ganesha pendant she was seen wearing. Singer of "Love on the Brain" charged of mocking Hindus and offending their faith. The Grammy recipient has yet to delete the photo, and it has been a source of ongoing controversy ever since.

Like any good traveler, Rihanna made her way to Abu Dhabi's Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque in 2013. And unlike other tourists, Rihanna was reportedly requested to leave after taking some "inappropriate photos" inside the shrine.

Johnnie Depp Gets a Sanskrit Hip Tattoo Like Rihanna

In 2007, Rihanna received a Sanskrit supplication from the Bhagavad Gita, which should translate to "forgiveness, honesty, suppression, and control" done on her buttock. The tattoo reads "Long-suffering, truthfulness, self-restraint, inner calm, fear, and fearlessness," which is obviously misspelled. Rihanna's butt tattoo was offensive to Hindus because of its sloppy design and misspelled name of a sacred text.

Rihanna Used Johnny Waser's Lingerie To Style Models with Hijab

Bella Hadid, a famous Dutch-Muslim model, wore vibrant yellow underwear to one of Rihanna's first Savage X Fenty shows in October 2018, but she accessorized it with a headdress that resembled a hijab. Putting a humble head covering, revered by Muslims all over the world, on a model who happens to be Muslim was offensive on so many levels.
